I've finally got a legit title for my corolla and am working on fixing the brakes now so that I can get it inspected and on the road after 2 long years of it sitting in the weeds, acquiring ant farms in the fenders..

Also, I ordered a panhard bar and front coilovers for it to add to the trd rear springs that I just bought. This thing is finally getting ready to be driven!!!! Photos soon :)

But I sold my Fit as a dd and picked up a 92 Toyota Pickup. I had no plans for it initially but that didn't last too long.

NYC Trip (part 1)

It was my first time visiting New York. We found a hostel to stay at and ate amazing food for the next 2 days. I wish I had brought my skateboard to ride around with. We ended up going backpacking in the Catskills mountains after staying in Manhattan and that was amazing also. Slept under the stars for the night. My ankle was so torn up though from rolling it that we ended up not hiking the entire trail we were planning.

Either way, it was the experience of a lifetime and I plan on going back as soon as possible. I only used my film camera the whole time so I didn't get tons and tons of photos, just a few really memorable ones!

What a hella good weekend! There was a local meet held by a group called ISO (Insane Stance Offset). Yeah, the name is a little lame but its super cool that there is finally a movement in the southeast for this kind of stuff. I'm sick of seeing rednecks in mustangs and civics with rotas turning heads!

I took 400 pictures and final exams start this week so it may be a minute before I can get any real edits done but I'll post up ASAP.

This picture just gives me the chills. Its shit quality, contains two amazing cars, and gives off a harsh, classic japanese street fighter feel. Who knows where these cars were before taking this picture, or where they were headed after the pic was snapped....

I simply lust after any restored older corollas that are slightly modded in period correct style. Take these corollas for instance. They exhibit exceptional quality in terms of keeping the original body but have 25 year old wheels and are tastefully dropped. I don't know much about these platforms but they sure catch my eye. I'd love to pick up a liftback like the one below someday.

Forgot to say that Matt is off his crutches now and back in action, after being out of commission for nearly 4 months. This picture was taken before spring break, a few weeks ago. I honestly usually hate 15" wheels on corollas. Its too modern looking in my opinion. This Corolla, however, conflicts with my usual tastes. It looks great with gobs of camber and hood risers. Another thing to take note of is that the tops of the kouki bumpers are painted, a detail you don't normally see in American owned Corollas. Great attention to detail here.

So I was bored as hell last night and was looking through older photos. I happened upon this one I shot of my corolla the first little meet I took it to. I had been watching some BestMotoring AE86 Bible videos and old touge footage and decided to give it the soulful, vintage, 80's screencap edit. This is what I came up with. I don't know why, but this has become one of my favorite photos.

When I look at it, I think to myself, "Some of the best drifters on the planet have risen up through the ranks, or torn up the streets, looking at that simple, boxy little gauge cluster. I get to see that same gauge cluster every time I sit down behind the wheel, in that torn up cloth seat." It certainly brings a smile to my face.

Man, I can't even start to describe how awesome this weekend was. Friday I went bike riding with my BMX friends and took some pictures, then we all went to a skatepark for more pictures. Saturday we took rollers of Chris's 240 and Sunday we hit the streets (pictures to come!) and Monday skated at the park more. My 70's style board is dope for skating in the bowl!

I don't normally like my 86's with painted bumpers, but this kouki struck my eye. Its got a certain attitude about it. Eastbear mirrors, aggressive fitment on what looks like reverse mesh, and a cage and seats. Not your typical show-going 86!

I used to hate American cars with a passion. Their horrible styling, obtrusive angles and unnecessary lines make them quite ugly cars to begin with. The interior design on most is less than par, not to mention they are much less reliable than most Japanese cars. But there is one problem, I am only speaking of new cars.

That being said, I have always been in love with all things vintage. In my mind, I live in an era where everyone dresses a little nicer, talks a little more suave, and carburetors were not a thing of the past. This fascination with old things has surely grown over the years, and has extended to vintage American cars. Yes, I said it, I do love me some classic American muscle!

When I first saw this car, the little butterflies in my stomach started fluttering around. Love at first sight is not something that everyone believes in. I do. I had no idea what it was, nor did I care. I wanted to hike up my jeans, slick back my hair, and put on a plain white T with rolled up sleeves and hop in and go for a drive to the soda shop, don't forget the nickel for the jukebox!

This thing screams character. First off, it seems to be daily driven. I see it almost every time I go downtown, and all I can do is marvel at this work of art.

Hand painted pinstriping, rust on the rocker panels, red spray painted wheels, a rusty 1965 license plate, shrunken head hanging from the rearview, and Mexican "poncho" blankets covering the seats.

I hope that people will begin to recognize that more vintage automobiles need to be preserved. There is a certain feeling you get from walking around an automobile like this, and even more, driving it. The smelly gas, the half-gone-but-still-lingering smell of cigarettes, the creaks, the groans, the joy of having it start up on a cold day and trying to keep it from stuttering. Ahh victory! There is nothing more satisfying.
